Disabling Personal Firewalls

The standard firewall built in to Windows XP and Windows Vista does not interfere with the operation of Remote-Assist.

We strongly reccomend that you only disable your personal firewall software if you have first ensured that the Windows built in firewall is enabled.

How to enable the Microsoft Windows XP firewall

  • Click Start, Settings, Control Panel and open Network Connections.
  • Within the Network Connections window, right-click the Local Area Connection and select properties.
  • Within the Local Area Connection Properties window, click the Advanced tab.
  • Finally, check the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet option.

How to enable the Microsoft Windows Vista firewall
  • Click Start Orb/Button
  • Select Control Panel
  • Click Security
